As an aviator, licensing has nothing to do with it. At high altitude, I already knew what was going to happen as the air is thin up there. By flying that high, you already are puching your luck. Not to mention what the wind condition was like. I hope everyone nkae it out OK, it does not look like it as many are burnt pretty bad. God bless all of them.

Not enough air to support the helicopter at high altitude flying. I resent the title comment insinuating that the pilot is inept. This was probably a career military pilot with more hours of flying than any of us will ever have sleeping in our lives. This can happen to the absolute best pilots in the world. Yes precautions can be taken, and maybe they were not taken in this accident but to naievely and ignorantly accuse the pilot of negligence is negligence on the writer's part.

from the wind direction indicated by smoke pilot was taking off in lee of mountain - local knowledge should have had it covered but we know too little - e.g. poss. engine malfunction - dont diss pilot until you know...

what the hell do you know about high altitude flying a heli? Sad but true there are risks in life and if your traveling in high altitude conditions it's no walk down main street. Give the pilot the benefit of the doubt.
